I’m dreaming of a white…sandy beach and a Christmas toast with rum punch. Wait, what? Let’s try this again…
Oh, the weather outside is frightful…oh to heck with that! Let’s pretend that all of us are going to get to spend the holidays in sun and surf and warm temperatures! Back when Their Finest Hourwas relaunched on the web about nine months ago, I made the statement that we weren’t going to fight against the culture on the blog and in the show, we were going to engage in it. To get Christmas week kicked off right, I’m going to do just that. My first guest for Monday’s (12/22) program on Vigilant Liberty Radio will be the beautiful and talented Ali Lee! (@TheRealAliLee).
UPDATE: REPLAY ADDED!! It’s Monday, which means I’ve got Their Finest Hourlive on Vigilant Liberty Radio at 10pm Eastern, 7pm Pacific! I’m going to open up the show tonight with a bit of a rant/educational session on the Republican Party in the wake of the “CRomnibus” $1.1 trillion spending bill that really has “truuuuue” conservatives ticked off.
Then, without calling it an official “audition”, I’ll be spending the balance of the show with Heather Boulware (@hboulware) and Eric Spencer (@JustEric). You’ve heard both of them on VLR before, and there’s a good chance that they’re going to be filling one of our Sunday night slots someday soon! I’ll kick things off and guide the conversation for the remainder of hour 1, but my plan for hour 2 of the show is to more or less turn things over to Heather & Eric and let them set the agenda and show theme!
Please come join us in VLR’s recently redone chat room! It’s still registration-free, just type a name in the box without a password and click login. If your chosen name isn’t in use on UStream (the chat back-end), you’re all set! (You can also use your UStream account if you have one, with the password!)
Alternately, there’s a show player over on the right or you can listen direct on Spreaker or through one of their mobile device apps!
Talk to you at 10E/9C/8M/7P!
Here’s the replay of tonight’s show! Apologies for the major tech glitch in the middle where the show went silent for around 10 minutes. As always if you would like a copy for offline listening, click the show title in the player to be taken to the page with a downloadable MP3.
UPDATE: REPLAY ADDED!It’s Monday, so I’ll have Their Finest Hourlive on Vigilant Liberty Radio tonight at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific for another great two finest hours of talk on the issues of the day!
In the first hour, I’ll be welcoming George Templeton (@rodentpolitics & @temptherat) of Free Radical Network. My second hour guest will be Katie, a.k.a “Red Pickle” (@redsoutrage). We’ve got lots to talk about, namely the GOP getting their ninth US Senate pick-up, the Rolling Stone/UVA reporting scandal, and whatever else is in the news that comes up!
UPDATE: REPLAY ADDED!! I hope all Vigilant Liberty Radio and Their Finest Hourfans had a great Thanksgiving holiday with their families and friends! I took last week off on Monday for the busy holiday week, so it will be great to be back on the air tonight at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific for another great two-hour program!
Joining me this evening for the whole show will be my friend Amanda McCallister (@RightInPlanning); we’ve got a few topics planned, but it’s likely to be somewhat of a grab-bag, and yes, we’ll be taking calls!
Last Monday (11/24) of course was the night of the Ferguson, Missouri riots in the wake of the Darren Wilson/Michael Brown grand jury non-indict. Amanda has a post here at TFH with her thoughts on what happened, and we’ll use that as a starting point. We’ll be branching out into several different topics, so be sure to tune in!
Off the top, we’ll do a whirl-around of domestic politics and a preview of Election Day with Washington Examinercommentary writer Ashe Schow (@AsheSchow). Ashe is one of my favorite guests, and in addition to pre-election review, we’ll also be sure to cover the latest in her writing on the politicization of sexual assault in America’s college campuses.
Then, for the second half of the program, I’m welcoming Katrina Jørgensen (@Veribatim, A Single Voice) of FTR Radio‘s World Class Hour and writer at IJReview back so we can leave the shores of the United States and focus on what’s going on in the rest of the world. Boko Haram has been back in the news, there’s still concern over the potential for runaway Ebola in Africa, the United Kingdom might leave the European Union, and much, much more!
If you’re not going to join in the chat room (remember, refresh the page at showtime to get the live stream in the player), please use the player at right, listen direct on Spreaker, or even use one of Spreaker’s mobile device apps!
Here’s tonight’s replay! If you want a copy for offline listening, click “Spreaker” in the player and you’ll get a web page with an MP3 download link:
UPDATE – REPLAY ADDED BELOW! Their Finest Hour returns live to Vigilant Liberty Radio at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific on Monday, August 25th! There’s a lot of great talk and commentary on tap, plus I’ll be opening up the phones in the 11:00 hour!
First up will be Matt Lewis (@mattklewis) of The Daily Caller and The Week. Matt’s segment is being pre-recorded mid-Monday afternoon, and will be a whirlwind of current events from Iraq, to Ferguson, to the Rick Perry indictment, a look-ahead to the mid-term elections, and much more!
Then in hour two, TFH will return to where I started just over a year ago with a live visit from my very first guest, Kevin Boyd (@kevinboyd1984)! Kevin writes all over the place it seems, so we’ll be getting his takes on what I covered with Matt Lewis, and anything else that comes up.
UPDATE: REPLAY ADDED BELOW!! Their Finest Hour returns live to Vigilant Liberty Radio tonight, August 11th, at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific for another great two hours of original programming!
First, I’ll be welcoming Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) to the guest’s chair. Noah is the newest member of the team at HotAir.com, one of my absolute favorite and go-to news and commentary blogs. HotAir’s Ed Morrissey and Jazz Shaw are TFH guest alumni, so it will be great to hear from Noah as well! Most of our conversation will probably be dominated by the situation in Iraq, on which Noah has written extensively, but as he posts up a storm at HotAir, really everything is on the table!
One of my goals for Their Finest Hour has always been to give opportunities for new voices to be heard. This past Thursday-Saturday was Erick Erickson’s Red State Gathering in Fort Worth, Texas. I wasn’t able to attend, but in hour two we’ll get a feel for the event by welcoming VLR first-timer Katie “Red Pickle”, who you’ll find on Twitter as @redsoutrage! I’m curious to see what the mood there was like as this should have been much less of an “establishment” event than say, CPAC. Plus, I need to hear about all the parties I missed. Katie’s a favorite of mine, and desires as much as I do to get out of our “echo chamber”, per her Twitter bio:
If we only focus on the things that divide us, we fail to see things that unite us. We need to stop letting them divide us, we are stronger together.
And who knows? Maybe we’ll open up the phones too!
Well – open phones didn’t happen (upgrade Skype, Katie 😉 ) but we did have a great show! Here’s the replay, and as always, you can click “Spreaker” in the player to download an MP3 copy for offline listening:
Their Finest Hour returns to Vigilant Liberty Radio live at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific on Monday, May 5th! The terrorist attack of September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya is back in the news, thanks to a recent release of emails under a Freedom of Information Act request by Judicial Watch that indicate the whole “YouTube video” excuse was known to be a sham from the get-go. Republicans are up in arms, and a select committee has been appointed by the House of Representatives, with Trey Gowdy of South Carolina as chairman.
Naturally, the Democrats are doubling down on “At this point, what difference does it make?”, and are even going so far as to say, “dude, that was like two years ago.” Oh, would that short time horizon and memory only apply to “Bush’s fault!” UPDATE: REPLAY ADDED
