TFH for Labor Day – Some Greatest Hits!

No live Their Finest Hour this week as I’m taking the Labor Day holiday off. No worries, TFH fans, because this means you’ve got a great opportunity to go back and listen to some programs you may have missed, or that you just want to hear again!

I’ve picked four shows from earlier this year that I’m particularly proud of, and that I particularly enjoyed. Links are to the original show posts, players are embedded here for convenience, and of course, you can click “Spreaker” in any of the players to be taken to the page where you can download MP3 copies for offline listening.

Enjoy the replays, and we’ll catch you back with a new Their Finest Hour on Vigilant Liberty Radio on Monday, September 8th!

TFH at the Movies: Live in 3D! – August 18

UPDATE: REPLAY ADDED! Their Finest Hour returns to Vigilant Liberty Radio live on Monday, August 18th, at 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific! This week, we’re taking a cultural excursion into film and cinema!

Joining me for the program will be Chris “Cranky T-Rex” (@CrankyTRex), whose movie reviews have been great content here at TFH and Amy (@moderncomments), host of VLR’s Modern Comments Radio (Wednesdays, 10pm Eastern).

We’ll be talking about our favorite movies, and how we as conservatives/libertarians/conservatarians need to use what the culture gives us rather than reflexively fight against it. We’ll also discuss how films that set out to deliver a conservative message aren’t helpful if the product isn’t up to par.

Oh My God, It’s a Godzilla Review!

Ken Watanabe shows surprise and fear in Godzilla
“They are all…perfect.” (Image: Legendary/WB via IMDB)

Typically when I sit down to write one of these reviews, I take a quick look around the Internet to see what others have said so as not to sound repetitive and help crystallize my own thoughts. With this new Godzilla film, it seems opinions are all over the place.  I, for one, thought it was awesome.  Continue reading Oh My God, It’s a Godzilla Review!

A Tangled Web: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”

The Amazing Spider-Man could best be summed up with the word “unnecessary.” It was a reboot made to keep the rights to everyone’s favorite wall crawler from going back to Marvel, and nothing about it was the least bit remarkable. It could’ve been a passable superhero flick on its own, but it’s a bad case of déjà vu when held against the previous Spider-Man installment made by Sam Raimi. Movie Review – Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It occurs to me I never reviewed Captain America:  The First Avenger despite the scathing rebuke I had written about the director’s plans for the character.  Suffice it to say, his first outing was actually a pleasant surprise that I rather enjoyed.

Now we’re into Phase 2 of Marvel’s plan for their movie world, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier continues the story of WW2 super soldier Steve Rogers following The Avengers (which was pretty awesome.)  It seems a common notion that The Winter Soldier has dethroned that movie as the best thing Marvel has done to date, and those folks do have a convincing argument.
