Private Masato Nakae, USA (August 19, 1944)

Masato Nakae was born in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii on December 20, 1917. He was drafted into the United States Army on February 8, 1942 and volunteered for duty with the all-Nisei (second-generation Japanese-American) 100th Infantry Battalion, later part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

Commander Samuel David Dealey, USN (May 26-July 3, 1944)

Samuel David Dealey was born on September 13, 1906 in Dallas, Texas. He received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and graduated with the class of 1930. He served his first several years in the United States Navy on surface ships before reporting to New London, Connecticut for Submarine School.

Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., USA (June 6, 1944)

Theodore Roosevelt III, known usually as “Junior” and “Ted” to his friends and family, was born on September 13, 1887 in Cove Neck, Oyster Bay, New York. Ted’s father was Theodore Roosevelt, at the time Assistant Secretary of the Navy and later the Governor of New York, the 25th Vice President, and the 26th President of the United States.

Ted Roosevelt served throughout his life in both the public and private sector. He served as a Presidential appointee as Governor of Puerto Rico (1929-1932) and Governor General of the Philippines (1932-1933). He even had held one of the same offices as his father: Assistant Secretary of the Navy (1921-1924). He was an elected member of the New York State Assembly in 1920-21. In the private sector, he was both the Chairman of the Board of American Express and a Vice President at Doubleday books.

Ted Roosevelt was also a military hero, serving with distinction and valor in both World War I and World War II.

Rudolph B. Davila was born in El Paso, Texas on April 27, 1916. His enlistment record indicates he was a high school graduate and working as a carpenter in Los Angeles, California when he was drafted for service in the United States Army on March 6, 1941.

Salvador J. Lara was born during 1920 in Riverside, California. His enlistment record indicates that he was a farm hand who left high school after three years and was drafted into the United States Army on July 7, 1942 for World War II service.

TFH 3/1: PFC Dan L. Neely, USA

During the Vietnam War, the United States Army‘s 1st Cavalry Division was equipped for and tasked with airmobile combat using helicopters. One of their light infantry units, the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, ran up against both North Vietnamese Army regulars and Viet Cong guerillias in fighting near Hue on March 1, 1968.
