Private First Class Carl V. Sheridan, USA (November 26, 1944)

see SheridanCarlVCarl Vernon Sheridan was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 5, 1925. He was still living there and working as a sales clerk when, at just age 18, he was drafted into the United States Army for combat service during World War II on May 1, 1943.

order dapoxetine Sheridan was trained as an infantryman and bazooka gunner, and it was in that capacity that he went to war against Nazi Germany as a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. He likely joined the unit as it was preparing to join in the invasion of Europe in England, or shortly after the 9th Division entered combat in France on June 10, 1944.

Staff Sergeant Herschel F. Briles, USA (November 20, 1944)

Herschel Floyd Briles, nicknamed “Pete”, was born in Colfax, Iowa on February 7, 1914. He joined the United States Army on his 27th birthday in February of 1941. By November of 1944, he was a Staff Sergeant with the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion and was fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe.

Captain Matt L. Urban, USA (June 14-September 3, 1944)

Blogger’s note: this post should properly have appeared on September 3, 2014 or before. Due to the long span of the citation of this Medal of Honor recipient, I missed it in the regular sequence of the World War II 70th anniversaries. I am sincerely sorry for this oversight of one week.

Matt Louis Urban was born with the surname Urbanowicz in Buffalo, New York on August 25, 1919. He graduated from Cornell University in 1941, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation, having been an ROTC member. As an officer with the 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division throughout World War II in Europe, he became one of the most decorated soldiers in United States’ history.

Second Lieutenant John E. Butts (June 14, 16, & 23, 1944)

John Edward Butts was born during 1922 in Medina, New York. He enlisted in the New York Army National Guard on October 12, 1939 and was a rifleman with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment when his unit was federalized for service with the United States Army on October 10, 1940.
