Their Finest Hour: Show from December 9!

Monday night’s Their Finest Hour on my Vigilant Liberty Radio broadcast home was a great show! I had blogger Alex Kauffman (@alexkauff) of For the Republic! and Amy “MC” (@moderncomments) of Modern Commentaries as my guests for a great discussion that went deep into bonus minutes!

Unfortunately, production snafus beset the program again, so the first 15 minutes or so of the show is incredibly garbled. That’s okay, just skip ahead to when it clears up and catch our great discussions of:

We also drew attention to the plight of friend of the show Katrina Jørgensen and her husband Kai who are currently separated by an ocean and US immigration laws – while “Kat” as we know her affectionately is gravely ill in the hospital. You can follow what’s going on with that saga by following Kat (@Veribatim), Kai (@thenorwegianfox), and watching the hashtag #VisaForKai.

It was a fantastic show, and I can’t wait to have both Alex and Amy on the program again. If you missed it or want to relive the experience, you’ll find the stream below. If you want to download it to listen to offline on your mobile device, click the Spreaker logo in the player and it will take you to the page with the MP3 download link!

I’ll be live again on Monday, December 16 at 10pm Eastern. The main topic on the schedule is immigration and immigration reform. Don’t miss!

December 9th “Their Finest Hour” Webcast!

Yeah…it’s dawned on me that I should probably start promoting my own Internet radio show on my own blog! Fail, to date, on my part.

Well, in any case, I’m live on-net tonight with two fantastic “conservatarian” guests, and a slate of topics that should prove of great interest. I’m calling this show “Trapped in Blue States Style” as all three of us are just that!

We’re live on Vigilant Liberty Radio at 10pm Eastern (9C/8M/7P) – here’s what we’ve got on-tap for what’s going to be a great show:

From New York, I’m welcoming blogger Alex Kauffman, who writes at For the Republic! I first interacted in depth with Alex back in 2011 when Herman Cain was the GOP not-Romney flavor-of-the-month and his “999” plan was all the rage…well, except to Alex and myself!

He’s posted two recent stories that we’ll be discussing. First up is an interview he had with an informed source about the case of US Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, who’s been missing in Afghanistan since June 30, 2009. Is this missing soldier a prisoner-of-war or a deserter?

Next up is Alex’s recounting of some of the history of the National Rifle Association over the past few decades, and what it says about grass-roots conservative organizations and whether or not they’re actually in the political game to win for their cause, or just to raise money and power or influence.

Joining us in the discussion will be Wisconsinite Amy “Modern Comments”, who previously appeared on TFH for my Burn Notice tribute show after the series ended its seven-season run this year.

We’ll also be discussing the passing of former South African President Nelson Mandela and his legacy as well as the big multi-part story written by Andrea Elliott with photographs by Ruth Fremson published today by The New York Times, “Invisible Child”, about a young woman named Dasani living in New York City who’s trapped by poverty and a system of social welfare and services that have completely failed and abandoned thousands – many of them, like Dasani, who are children.

You can catch the stream from the right pane right here at Their Finest Hour when the show goes live (does not auto play; will have to refresh!), but better still, come and join us over at the VLR website where you can both get the stream aspirin germany and join in our registration-free chat room to interact with both myself and my guests!

You can also try and get the attention of us via Twitter using the hashtag #TFH

Finally, I’m debuting all-new introduction and signoff sound clips for the show tonight…they’re EPIC if I do say so myself!

10pm! Talk to you then!

An evening of blueberry yogurt, mojitos, & C-4!

This upcoming Monday night on my Conservative Daily News-hosted Internet radio show “Their Finest Hour Radio”, I’m going to have a 90-minute special roundtable panel broadcast celebrating the seven seasons and 111 episodes of the USA Network hit series Burn Notice!

That’s right! A (nearly) politics-free show that will celebrate an awesome piece of current culture. I say “nearly” politics-free because there are undeniable libertarian themes to Burn Notice – corrupting influence of power, distrust of government, etc. – that we can’t help but to discuss. But, as Andrew Breitbart understood best, and too few of conservatives and libertarians yet understand, we have to embrace and use the dominant culture rather than fight it.

I first started watching the show early in season 3, and quickly purchased the season 1 & 2 DVD sets to get caught up on the adventures of burned super-spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), his mom Madeline (Sharon Gless), girlfriend and ex-terrorist/guerilla/gun-runner Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar), best friend and ex-SEAL Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell), starting with season 4 fellow burned spy Jesse Porter (Coby Bell), and a whole host of awesome recurring characters and villains. Since then, the show was a fixture of my Thursday nights, or off the DVR not long after.
I’ve assembled a panel of great “Burners” for the show. First up is my friend Chris T. Rex (Twitter: @CrankyTRex) whom I’ve collaborated with on some productions of “The NOT Ed Morrissey Show” via when Ed is away. Chris and I have debated & discussed the show after just about every episode for the last two or three years.
Then, we’ve got two great ladies – yes, this action-based show has universal appeal – joining the panel, both of whom are new to Internet broadcasting: Amber Murray (@ambercelt) and Amy, who we all know on Twitter simply as @moderncomments!
The lineup isn’t finalized, as I’m hoping for another participant, and who knows, maybe a surprise guest or two!

In any case, we’ll be LIVE at 10pm Eastern Time on Monday, September 16! A link to the actual show page will be posted when it’s available over the weekend.

And, as a special treat for Burners who love the program, would love to listen to us reminiscing and analyzing, but aren’t fully up-to-date and are a season or two behind in watching, the first hour of the show will be kept as SPOILER-FREE as we can! Which means we’ll limit ourselves to seasons 1 through 4 or partially into 5. We want everyone to enjoy, and if you’re not a fan of the show, catch the first hour anyway and you’ll learn why the four of us love it and will miss it terribly.

Talk to all you Burners and Burners-to-be Monday night!

Actor Paul Tei (IMDB) appeared in no less than 15 episodes as recurring character “Barry Burkowski”, a money launderer who often assisted the main “crew” in their activities…as well as winding up in trouble himself and needing assistance from the heroes. Thanks in advance to Mr. Tei for accepting an invitation to join in! Among other projects, he is the Artistic Director and President of the Mad Cat Theatre Company.

If you are not familiar with the show and are curious about the title of this post, those are the three favorite substances of the three principal characters: Michael, Sam, and Fiona respectively. 🙂
